Did Sunil Gavaskar Go Too Far? Inzamam Warns Him Over Pakistan Criticism
Sunil Gavaskar’s recent remarks about the Pakistan cricket team have stirred up strong reactions. Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has now stepped in, urging Gavaskar to be more mindful of his words.
Speaking on a Pakistani show, Inzamam expressed his disappointment over Gavaskar’s statement that even India’s B team could defeat Pakistan. He said, “Gavaskar sahab should check the stats before making such remarks. He is a senior cricketer and someone we respect, but it’s unfair to speak like this about another team. Please be mindful of your words.”
Gavaskar’s comments came after India’s strong performance in the Champions Trophy 2025, where they once again dominated Pakistan in the league stage. He suggested that while he wasn’t sure about a third-string squad, India’s second-best team could still give Pakistan a tough challenge.
In recent years, India has maintained dominance over Pakistan in major tournaments, securing wins in the 2022 T20 World Cup, the 2023 ODI World Cup, and the 2024 T20 World Cup. In the current Champions Trophy, Virat Kohli led from the front with a stunning century against Pakistan, helping India chase down 242 with ease.
Pakistan, despite being co-hosts, struggled in the tournament and were knocked out in the group stage. Meanwhile, India has secured a spot in the final, which will take place in Dubai on March 9.
