India’s Unfair Advantage in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Sparks Controversy
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has become a hot topic, with many criticizing the decision to let India play all its matches in Dubai. This arrangement has led to claims of an unfair advantage, especially since Pakistan is the official host.
Veteran commentator Jonathan Agnew didn’t hold back, calling out the scheduling and questioning the fairness of the matches. From Sydney, Australian captain Pat Cummins acknowledged that this setup gives India a significant edge. He stated, “I think it’s good in that the tournament can go on, but obviously, it does give them (India) a huge advantage playing on the same ground.”
Cricket journalist Gideon Haigh added that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wields immense power in the cricket world, allowing India to set favorable terms. “They already look very strong, and they’ve got that obvious benefit of playing all their games there,” he remarked.
England captain Jos Buttler, ahead of their must-win match against Afghanistan, was also asked about India playing all their matches in Dubai. “Not really. I think it’s a unique tournament already, isn’t it, with being hosted here with one team playing in a different place but that’s not something I’m sort of worried too much about at the moment. I’ve got all my focus on preparing well tonight and our game tomorrow,” Buttler said in the pre-match press conference.
The tournament’s excitement has taken a hit, with many now viewing it as lackluster. If India reaches the final, it’s expected to be held in Dubai, further fueling the controversy. Meanwhile, Australia has started strong, defeating England and gearing up to face South Africa and Afghanistan next.
This situation has ignited debates about fairness and the influence of powerful cricket boards in international tournaments.
