Wasim Akram Criticizes Abrar Ahmed’s Celebration After Dismissing Shubman Gill

Wasim Akram criticizes Abrar Ahmed for his excessive celebration after dismissing Shubman Gill in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Akram, a legendary fast bowler, praised Abrar for his stunning delivery but felt that the celebration was unnecessary, considering Pakistan’s situation in the match.

During the high-stakes game in Dubai, Abrar bowled a dream delivery in the 17th over to dismiss Gill, who had been batting fluently alongside Virat Kohli. The ball pitched on the leg stump and spun sharply to hit the top of off-stump, leaving Gill with no answer. While the delivery itself was hailed as one of the best in the tournament so far, Abrar’s animated send-off did not sit well with Akram.

Wasim Akram Calls Out Abrar Ahmed’s Celebration

Akram, speaking on Sports Central, expressed his frustration, saying, “The delivery was impressive, but not the celebration. There is a time and place to show such emotions. You should look at the match situation before celebrating like that.”

He further added, “Is there no one to guide him? The team was under pressure, yet he was celebrating as if he had taken a five-wicket haul. His celebration killed the moment.”

India’s Dominant Performance Secures Semi-Final Spot

Despite Abrar Ahmed’s brilliant bowling, his efforts weren’t enough to stop India. Shubman Gill had already played a steady innings of 46 off 52 balls, providing a solid platform. Virat Kohli once again stepped up in an ICC event, scoring a century and forming a crucial 100+ run partnership with Shreyas Iyer.

India comfortably chased down the 242-run target in 42.3 overs, securing their second consecutive win in the tournament. With this victory, India became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Pakistan’s Struggles Continue

Pakistan’s campaign has been far from ideal. Their loss to India marked their second consecutive defeat in the tournament after losing to New Zealand. The team has struggled with both batting and bowling inconsistencies. While Abrar Ahmed was Pakistan’s standout bowler in this match, their overall lack of discipline and inability to capitalize on key moments have cost them dearly.
