Barabati Stadium Floodlight Failure: Odisha Government Demands Answers
During the second One Day International (ODI) between India and England at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium floodlight failure caused a 30-minute interruption. The Odisha government has demanded an explanation from the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) regarding this incident.
State Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, who attended the match with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, expressed concern over the disruption. He stated that despite prior arrangements, the malfunction occurred, and the government will seek a detailed explanation from the OCA.
OCA Secretary Sanjay Behera explained that each floodlight tower had two generators. When one generator failed, switching to the backup was delayed because a vehicle was obstructing access. This logistical issue contributed to the prolonged interruption.
The state government has issued a notice to the OCA, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter and the disappointment it caused among sports enthusiasts. They have requested a detailed report identifying those responsible and outlining measures to prevent future occurrences.
This incident has sparked a political row, with various stakeholders demanding accountability to ensure such disruptions do not happen in future matches.
