Rohit Sharma Ends Retirement Rumors After Champions Trophy 2025 Victory!

India’s captain Rohit Sharma has made it clear—he is not retiring from One Day Internationals (ODIs) anytime soon. After leading India to a thrilling four-wicket victory against New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final, Rohit addressed the growing speculation about his future in the format.

There were reports suggesting that he might step away from ODIs after this tournament, especially since India has no scheduled 50-over matches in the coming months. With the next ODI World Cup still two years away in 2027, the BCCI was considering a leadership transition. However, Rohit put all rumors to rest during the post-match press conference, stating, “I am not going to retire from this format. Just to make sure that no rumors are spread moving forward.”

Rohit played a crucial role in the final, scoring 76 runs off 83 balls, smashing seven fours and three sixes. His innings set the foundation for India’s successful chase of 252 runs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, small but important contributions from players like KL Rahul (34* off 39 balls) helped India secure the title.

Earlier in the match, New Zealand posted 251/7, thanks to half-centuries from Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell. India’s bowlers, especially Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy, kept things tight, picking up two wickets each to restrict the Kiwis from setting a bigger total.

With this win, India created history by lifting the Champions Trophy for the third time—more than any other team. The victory also strengthened India’s dominance in limited-overs cricket, leaving fans excited about the future of Indian cricket under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.

While India’s next set of ODI fixtures is yet to be decided, Rohit’s statement has given clarity to his plans. His experience and leadership remain invaluable for the team as they build towards the 2027 World Cup.
